In March 2021, Prime Minister Mustafa Al Kadhimi visited the Saudi capital, Riyadh. Meeting with Crown Prince Muhammed bin Salmon, he was welcomed with a 21-rifle salute and air show by the Saudi Air Force in his honour. Following a welcome ceremony, Al Kadhimi and Muhammad bin Zayed led delegation meetings focusing on expanding bilaterial relationships and discussing the necessary steps to ensure stability in Iraq.
April 2021 also saw a visit from Ahmed Abuoul Gheit, Secretary General of the Arab League, who met with Mustafa Al Kadhimi in Baghdad. During the visit, Abuoul Gheit expressed his gratitude to Iraq for its willingness to host the next Arab League summit, as well as commending the country’s efforts to create balanced relations with its neighbours. Prime Minister Al Kadhimi in turn expressed Iraq’s support for the Arab League’s role in bringing together Arab states, particularly for its efforts trying to alleviate instability in Lebanon and conflict in Yemen.
